6 Answers to Common Concerns Smokers Have About Switching to Vaping
Posted 8th Jul 2016 to Vaping News
If you’re sitting on the fence about switching to vaping from smoking, we have answers to your questions that will steer you on the right path to quitting your habit.
1. It sounds more complicated than smoking.
In fact, it’s about the same as smoking. To start, pick up any one of our starter kits. These contain a vape pen, which you fill with eliquid. Eliquid contains food-grade propylene glycol, vegetable glycerin, flavouring, and nicotine. We have eliquids which do not contain nicotine if you eventually want to ramp down your nicotine intake.
To use the vape pen, you simply press a button and vape. It’s actually less work than lighting each smoke! A vape pen is better to start with if you smoke 10-20 cigarettes per day, since disposable cigarettes won’t give you the vapour or as strong of a nicotine hit. To charge the pen, use your supplied charger.
2. Getting eliquids will be harder than buying smokes.
This is absolutely not the case. Can you order your cigarettes online and have them delivered in the post? You can order our UK-made eliquids online - simply set a calendar reminder for your next order to make sure you never run out of supply. If you do, you can usually pick up eliquids in any high street shop, just like your cigarettes. Although they may not be as tasty as ours.
3. I’ll gain weight when I stop smoking.
While this is true for traditional smoking cessation methods, it usually isn’t for vapers. In fact, a man helped a tobacco chewer lose 26 pounds by not just replacing his smoking habit, but by replacing his snacking habit. Read all about it here!
4. I tried it once and it was too strong.
If you got more of a nicotine hit than you expected when you tried your first vape, select the nicotine strength for your eliquid that corresponds with your smoking habit. Eliquids are cheap enough that you can experiment with different nicotine strengths.
0.6% (6mg) Smokers of 10 light strength cigarettes a day
1.2% (12mg) Smokers of 10 standard strength cigarettes a day
1.8% (18mg) Smokers of 15-20 cigarettes a day
5. Doesn’t it cost around the same as smoking?
Vaping costs much less than smoking regularly. To start, our Aurora Vape Kit is only 20 pounds. It will take most ex-smokers approximately one week to go through a 10ml bottle of eliquid, which range in cost from three to seven pounds on average. Does a pack of cigs last you a week?
6. I’ve read headlines about vaping being harmful. Is it?
This is a question of relative harm to smoking. Public Health England states that vaping and ecigarettes are 95% less harmful than smoking, and has recently come out with policies for employers urging them to encourage the use of vaping in workplaces where children are not present. The Royal College of Physicians recommends vaping as a particularly effective means of tobacco harm reduction. Eliquids sold in the UK must be made of high-quality food-grade ingredients under the Tobacco Products Directive. In short, vaping only comes with minimal risks, which do not include death, cancer, heart attack, or stroke.
